Somebody Stick a Fork in me…

…’cause I’m done. With work, that is, not food blogging.

The blog has been a bit quiet recently because I’ve been making exciting preparations to go travelling in South East Asia, then work in Australia for a year. Having finished my job of seven years yesterday, I’m starting to look forward to a marvellous holiday/travelling experience. As well as a spot of reflection I’m looking forward to having some veritable food adventures and doing some cooking courses in places like Chiang Mai and Ho Chi Minh City.

I’ve heard a lot of exciting things about food in the region. From street food eating to fusion flavours and the sensory experiences of local food markets, it seems I have a lot to look forward to. I’ll try to catalog some of the experiences, be I warn you now, there could be some envy-inducing words/photography coming your way.

The plan is to visit (in order) Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Bali, then head to Australia to visit friends and then start work.

Lots of people seem to have had similar travel routes, so if you know of any good places to visit or know any cookery schools I should consider, I’d appreciate any pointers 🙂

  1. Having just done 2 weeks in Malaysia and 4 days in Bangkok, I can heartily recommend Georgetown in Penang. Stunning food. Make sure you eat lots of chilli crab in Singapore (and Hainan chicken rice, of course). In Bangkok, we only ate street food really and everything was excellent.

Josh has an excellent blog about his SE Asia travels; http://www.cookingthebooks.typepad.com/
